Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level 2500 HD Pro has 17-inch steel wheels, a trailer hitch, manually-adjustable trailering mirrors, and a locking tailgate. The SLE adds alloy wheels, upgraded exterior trim elements, power-adjustable and heated trailering mirrors, and the MultiPro configurable tailgate. Step up to the SLT for 18-inch alloy wheels, all-terrain tires, LED fog lights, extendable trailering mirrors, and lighting in the cargo bed. The AT4 has an off-road-tuned suspension, underbody skid plates, and a spray-in bed liner, while the top-end Denali has 20-inch alloy wheels, side steps, and a power-sliding rear window.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the Sierra 2500 is a 6.6-liter gas V-8 with 401 horsepower. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission. A 6.6-liter turbodiesel is available if you want the 445 horsepower, and this powertrain generates 910 pound-feet of torque. Choosing the turbodiesel gets you a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
When equipped with the gas V-8 and the tow package, the 2500 HD can tow up to 18,500 pounds and carry up to 3,863 in the bed. GMC offers both drivetrains with rear-wheel drive for all trims except the Denali and AT4, which come standard with four-wheel drive. Both engines have lots of power, and the truck provides a smooth ride, even when towing heavy loads.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to six people in the two larger cabs, and everyone has a comfortable place to sit. The Sierra has a more upscale feel than your average pickup, especially if you have a higher trim. The Pro and SLE have cloth upholstery, but leather comes in the rest of the lineup, along with power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. The AT4 adds ventilated front seats and comes with front bucket seats with a center console. In addition to the AT4's upgrades, the Denali adds perforated leather upholstery. Technology features start with a 7-inch touch screen in the Pro, which also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's an 8-inch touch screen and a Wi-Fi hotspot in the SLE, and the SLT adds a 120-volt power outlet. Step up to the Denali for integrated navigation, an upgraded driver information display, wireless charging, and a premium Bose stereo system.
Safety Features
Every 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 comes with a long list of safety aids. These include lane-departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic braking, a surround-view camera system, a safety alert seat, and front and rear parking sensors. Every model also has a blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. A head-up display is available for most trims, and you can also get a trailering camera system that displays camera views on the touch screen and a digital rearview camera.
