2022 GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck is as capable as ever, but with updates for the 2022 model year, it's fancier and comes with more tech features. The latest Sierra 1500 has a 13.4-inch touch screen in all trims except the entry-level Pro, and these also have a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The Denali received some significant upgrades in the cabin to make it even more luxurious, and it's now available with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving technology.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Sierra 1500 Pro comes with 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, LED taillights, and chrome bumpers. It also has heated side mirrors. Step up to the SLE for the MultiPro tailgate with EZ Lift, LED bed lighting, and power-adjustable and heated side mirrors. Choose the Elevation for 20-inch black wheels, LED fog lights, and a gloss black grille, or choose the SLT for an auto-dimming driver's side mirror and the option for a power sunroof. The AT4 is the off-road version. It comes with a 2-inch lift, off-road springs, and Rancho monotube shocks. This trim also adds a spray-in bed liner, and the new AT4X adds to all this with the Kicker tailgate speaker and skid plates. The top-level Denali has an adaptive suspension, 20-inch wheels, and chrome exterior trim, and the Denali Ultimate has upgrades in the cabin.
Engine (Power)
The base engine for the Sierra 1500 is now a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder with 310 horsepower. There's also a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower and a 6.2-liter V-8 that makes 420 horsepower. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel six-cylinder with 277 also returns for 2022.
Performance
When equipped with the tow package and the diesel engine, the Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds and carry a 2,240 payload. The 6.2-liter V-8 can tow up to 13,000 pounds, and the 5.3-liter can tow up to 11,200 pounds.
Interior
GMC made some big improvements to the Sierra's cabin. The redesigned dashboard has a cockpit-type feel, and the controls are now within easy reach for the driver. The SLE has dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Moving up to higher trims adds leather upholstery and heated rear seats. The SLE and up have a 13.4-inch touch screen with Google integrated right into the system, and it works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Bose stereo is available, and you can also get navigation, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and two 120-volt power outlets.
Safety Features
The Pro comes standard with a rearview camera and the new Pro Safety Package with lane-departure warning, a following distance indicator, an automatic emergency braking system that works with the forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist. It also comes with automatic high beam headlights and an HD rear vision camera. The Super Cruise hands-free driving system is optional for the Denali and comes with 14 different camera views, including the Transparent Trailer. There's also a new Trailer Blind Zone Alert that will factor in the length of the trailer when you change lanes. The optional Technology Package for the Denali trims comes with a rear camera mirror and a large head-up display.
