2022 GMC Canyon
The GMC Canyon is the ideal choice for people who want the capabilities of a truck but not the bulk of a full-size pickup. Its sturdy frame and strong V-6 engine mean it can tow impressive loads, and its diverse lineup means there's a model for every driver. The 2022 Canyon features a new Denali Black Edition with black exterior trim elements and gloss black exhaust tips.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The entry-level Canyon is the Elevation Standard. It has 18-inch wheels, Chevy's CornerStep rear bumper, and a locking tailgate. The Elevation is next in the lineup with a remote locking tailgate, LED fog lights, body-colored exterior door handles, and a sliding rear window. The off-road capable AT4 comes with special 17-inch wheels, off-road tires, and an off-road suspension. It also has a transfer case shield and offers the Off-Road Performance Package with front and mid skid plates and rocker-panel protectors.
The top-level Canyon Denali has 20-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting in the bed, and a spray-on bed liner. The new Denali Black Edition package comes with 20-inch black-painted wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, and black side steps.
Engine (Power)
The Canyon's base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower. A 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 horsepower is optional for the two lower trims and comes standard with the AT4 and Denali. There's also a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder that delivers 181 horsepower. It's available for all but the Elevation Standard.
Performance
The ride in the Canyon is smoother than most other pickups on the road. It feels stable around turns and has a responsive steering system that makes it easy to park and maneuver when driving around town. The base engine can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped, and the diesel can tow up to 7,700 pounds.
Interior
Depending on the cab, the Canyon has room for up to five people. The entry-level model has a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and automatic climate control, while the Elevation adds a power-adjustable driver's seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and soft-touch materials on the dashboard. The upscale Denali has a power-adjustable front passenger seat, leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The technology in the Canyon starts with a 7-inch touch screen display and a six-speaker stereo system, and it has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Elevation adds a Wi-Fi hotspot, an 8-inch touch screen, and two USB ports for the rear-seat passengers. The Denali upgrades to a 7-speaker Bose stereo, adds an integrated navigation system, wireless charging, and comes with two type-A USB ports and an SD card slot.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Canyon has a rearview camera, a full suite of air bags, and the Teen Driver system, which allows parents to set parameters for speed, stereo volume, and more for their young drivers. Stepping up to the Elevation adds the option for the Driver Alert Package with rear park assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking. The Denali makes the optional features from the Driver Alert Package standard, and it adds a driver-attention alert system.
